FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Bangor, Maine (October 3, 2023) – New England Fights presents its next mixed-martial-arts event “NEF 55: Glory Days” on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of a women’s amateur strawweight bout to the card. BJ Garceau (2-2) is scheduled to meet Alecia Palmer (0-0) at a fight weight of 115 pounds.
BJ Garceau began her amateur career in early 2018 at “NEF 32.” Competing with type-1 diabetes, she has inspired many through her first four fights. Her most recent victory came in November 2021 at “NEF 45” when Garceau submitted Haley Martin (0-1) just 23 seconds into the first round. She currently represents Young’s MMA based in Orrington, Maine.
“I’m so excited to be back in the NEF cage with so many of my teammates from Young’s MMA in our hometown,” said Garceau. “This fight is for the hometown fans and everyone who’s believed in me over the years. I can’t wait to put on a show with a game opponent with the guidance of Chris Young (Young’s MMA head coach). I promise this will be a fight none of us will forget.”
Alecia Palmer will make her amateur MMA debut in the fight with Garceau. She is, however, no stranger to the cage she will debut in. Palmer competed in a grappling match last month at “NEF 54” that saw her go to a draw with Alyssa Taylor. Prior to that match, Palmer had also competed in a kickboxing fight on a card in New Hampshire. She currently represents First Class MMA of Brunswick, Maine and the Choi Institute based in Portland, Maine.
“I’m so excited and appreciative to be making my MMA debut for NEF in Bangor,” said Palmer. “It’s time to mesh everything together and test all of the work I’ve put in. I’m thankful for BJ accepting the fight. She seems like a respectful and game opponent with notable experience. I take pride in having grit and I’ve shown that in my last two competitions with very tough opponents. I can’t wait to show that in Bangor and find that spark.”
The fight is the second women’s bout announced for the “NEF 55” card. Last week, NEF revealed that Glory Watson (5-1), Garceau’s teammate at Young’s MMA, and Shawna Ormsby (2-4) would headline the show in the professional main event.
“NEF 55: Glory Days” takes place on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. Doors are scheduled to open at 6 pm with first fight taking place at 7 pm. Tickets to “NEF 55” are available now at www.ticketmaster.com.
