New England Fights presents its next mixed-martial-arts event “NEF 55: Glory Days” on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Earlier today, NEF announced the addition of an amateur bout to the card. Charles Sullivan (1-0) will meet Darryl Andrews (1-0) in the heavyweight division.
Charles “Chainsaw” Sullivan made his amateur debut last February at “NEF 51” against Abdul Keita (0-1). In one of the most action-packed fights to take place in NEF this year, Sullivan weathered a barrage of heavy blows from 6’6” Keita against the cage and then took his opponent to the mat to score a technical knockout victory with only six seconds remaining in the first round. The Bangor crowd was electric for Sullivan’s gritty performance. He represents VisionQuest Muay Thai based in Pittsfield, Maine.
“I am excited to be stepping into the cage against Darryl in Bangor,” noted Sullivan. “At this point in my training, I am not after a W or L, I need to be challenged to see where I stand. Darryl seems like a challenging match for me, which is what I want. Big thanks to him for being my opponent.”
Darryl “D.J.” Andrews will, likewise, enter the NEF cage for the second time in his amateur career. Andrews debuted with the promotion in February 2020 at “NEF 42” in Portland against Titus Pannell (1-1). After nearly knocking Pannell out with a brutal right hand at the closing bell of the first round, Andrews went on to win the fight via unanimous decision. He represents South Shore Sportfighting (SSSF) based in Rockland, Massachusetts.
“I’m very excited to be getting back into the cage again, especially for NEF,” said Andrews. “They treated me very well last time. Charles is a big, tough opponent, but I’m not making this drive for nothing. This is going to be a war.”
“NEF 55: Glory Days” takes place on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. Doors are scheduled to open at 6 pm with first fight taking place at 7 pm. Tickets to “NEF 55” are available now at www.ticketmaster.com.
